The first thing that you think of when you are planning to buy rugs is their shape and the first shape that you think of is the rectangular shaped rugs. But if you would like a change from the usual why not experiment with a round rug?

Rugs are now available in a few shapes unlike earlier when the rugs were generally made only in rectangles. But you will also perceive round and semi circular rugs in a rug store these days. You will also come across rugs that are shaped in the form of a flower or like fish. Other than the color and the style of the rug, you also have to decide what type of rug and what size will be required for a particular spot in your home. Needless to say that price will play a major role in your decision making.

Another significant factor to consider is the size. You will find rugs in varying sizes and the size of the room and the decor are factors that will go into the determining of the rug you plan to buy. If you are planning a round rug for your dining area remember that the dining table and the chairs will necessarily have to be accommodated on it. You will also have to consider how much will be hidden under the table and choose one that has a plain centre like a Medallion rug.

Remember that round rugs mellow sharp corners and having an 8 x 8 round rug in the foyer will definitely invite comments from your friends. Round rugs with floral designs add a tough of exclusivity to the room. They look good in both Victorian and modern home styles. You can get such rugs in tropical, Asian, Victorian and garden styles, in varied colors. You can be assured that round area rugs will only add elegance and appeal to your room. So before stepping out to get yourself a rug, take time to mull over your home and its design and choose something that will blend perfectly with the decor and the whole room itself.

8×8 round rugs comes in various aesthetically designed models. You can view more such quality products at Shop All Things

Re you the one who have busy schedule everyday? From Monday to Friday you work nine to five on your office. After you go home, you have to continue your job given by your boss so you can submit it the next day. Day by day, you become tired, bored and stressed out with your daily activity. It seems like you don’t want to do nothing after going home from work and you just want to relax on your couch and turn up the TV to watch live sports. If you face this problem, I have a good news for you. The good news is: most people have the same problem or issue with you, including me. We work nine to five. At five we go home but we have to finish our job because the deadline is short. Everyday we do the same routine and it leads us to a boredom and frustration.

So, the question is: what is the most reliable way to relieve our stress? Well, the best way to relieve your stress is by spa. You can buy large hot tubs and place it in your house and you can use it anytime you are stressed out or depressed. I know that hot spa could relieve your stress because I often did it with my friends. A couple months ago, my friends and I are used to bath together in spas hot tubs and we very enjoyed and comfortable.

From this experience, I know that spa is the most reliable way to relieve your stress. You don’t have to spend a lot of money to go to beauty spa center in your town. You can visit your friend’s house who have hot tub spa or perhaps you could by it on your own. Keep in mind that you should read the safety guidelines if you decide to buy spa hot tub and place it in your home.

Every homeowner, especially homemakers, believes that homes represent the relationship of family members toward the other and the family values that they hold. This is why many of them exert all efforts to keep the beauty, sense, style, and vibes of their households, even by way of getting window treatment for a start.

Why are these homeowners giving much necessary attention to window details? Since they are like mirrors to your soul, having great windows add an attractive look to your home, family and your guests, how simple it may seem to be. Windows are also functional, in the sense that they provide essential blocking from light and sound and maintain privacy against the outside environment. So how should one get a window treatment? Could the homeowner do this without any professional and technical assistance?

Foremost, you should take consideration of your window style and their locations. This will help you identify how to go about window treatment that will match your conventional or contemporary home styles or environment. Understand the function of a particular room to guide you from choosing the materials that you are to incorporate in the improvement. Correct window measurements are crucial. This will also help you decide details such as whether to use longer rods or the layers and fabrics of curtains.

Ask yourself, why do you want a window treatment? What is the purpose that it should serve on you? Then, you also have to note down some details like light control and temperature regulation features of fabrics your prefer and privacy as well. A formal window style though may require more intricate expertise procedures whilst informal window style is easier to enhance on your own. Nevertheless, how your windows may appeal outside your home is another reminder for any homeowner.

After all these considerations, you can move on to a do-it-yourself window treatment. Below are easy steps that you may find helpful while you go along the way.

1. Once you have picked your curtains from the store, add an X-factor to it by styling it buttons, ribbons, beads, tassels, bows, cording, and other embellishments available at the store where near your house or home equipment shopping center.

2. Use vibrant colors if you intend to use wooden blinds. Paint them; it is fun.

3. Try to sew your own fabrics or curtains. Like painting, it is fun and educational at the same time.

4. Buy a DIY roller shade kit from a fabric or craft store and make your personalized roller shade. You can also just buy a plain roller shade and enhance it with acrylic paint-stamped shapes, stripes, flowers, or polka dots. You can add more to it if you want to explore the artistry of it.

When it is about home upgrading like window treatment, all homeowners should always keep their options open. It is best for them to go about a thorough research on the improvement details and procedures in any section of the home. Besides, after seeing your work on window treatment done, hard work truly pays off.

Organizing a harmonic relationship between home and homeschool requires thought and prioritizing. Determine what is important to you and your family and set the goals you want to achieve before you start.

When setting up your home along with your school, determine what values and priorities will govern the environment. Do you want clear cut and predictable tasks? Or do you want a free-flowing style?

Make a list of what’s important to you and your family and lists the items in order of priority. When you list and prioritize your values, you declare and acknowledge your family style and create a lifestyle that accommodates and reflect your values. Take this task seriously, as it is the first and most important step in creating harmony in your family. Blend together your life requirements along with the education of your children with clear cut modes and responsibilities for each. When you synchronize your values with your lifestyle, you will have a perfect environment in which all participants will flourish.

To avoid conflicts between your home and homeschool, you must establish and adhere to a family style, so that roles, expectations and requirements will be understood by all.

Here’s some examples of family styles. If you value traditional methods with a focus on manners and respect, then your family style will require that the whole family spends a lot of time together learning and reinforcing behavior. As you know, you can tell your children over and over to behave a certain way but if that behavior is not modeled by you, the parents, you are wasting your breath. The old saying “do what I say, not as I do” never works! On the other hand, if creativity and self expression is your valued goal, your family and school style should be relaxed and free flowing, which requires independent play and unconventional teaching methods.

Remember to keep it simple. Organize all spaces to reflect your style while still promoting curiosity and energy. Make your home and homeschool a respite from the confusing and demoralizing outside world. Create a pleasant place to live, educate your children, share meaningful experiences and create permanent bonds. Make it a place that everyone truly enjoys.
Others will see how you live and learn in harmony. They will take note of your calm and purposeful environment and want to emulate it.

Put harmony into your family life by defining the values and priorities of your home style. A well-organized home and school provides a harmonic foundation in which your family will flourish. This harmony and peace will affect everything you do. Your family will work, rest and play with clarity and purpose. When you organize your homeschool around your values and priorities, you will reduce stress and achieve cooperative behaviors. Everyone will feel more self-assured as they live and learn.

Next, organize your space to reflect your individual family style. Streamline distracters to create functional order, and most importantly, eliminate clutter. Your home and school should be clear and purposeful.

It will take planning and thought at the beginning but I assure that you and your family will be better for it. Do it and you will feel like a million dollars!

Central Austin is filled with pre-war homes commonly referred to as bungalows, and are sought after by many for their charm, coziness and attention to detail.

The word “bungalow” comes from the Indian word “bangla”, which used to refer to homes built in a Bengal style. “Bangla” were cottages with low roofs and large porches built around them. The British took the idea from the Indians, and began building their summer homes in a similar fashion, and the bungalow, as we know it, was born- all rooms on one floor, built around a central parlor. Once the first American bungalow was built in Cape Cod in 1879, the home style took off across the country.

During the early 1900s, there was a massive migration to the west, with many people settling in California. The architecture firm of Greene and Greene created the one and a half story bungalow, which became wildly popular, and soon could be purchased through mail order catalogs, such as Sears & Roebuck, and Montgomery Ward. The bungalows that now cover California are referred to as “California Bungalows”, though the style is popular across the country, including here in Austin.

Though there are different styles of the bungalow, such as the Arts and Crafts, Prairie Style, and Queen Anne, they all share similar qualities and features. Bungalows were built to battle the elaborate Victorian movement, and to return to warmer, family oriented housing where the craft of the homebuilder was showcased. Since bungalows were created for warm summer housing, they reduce heat with large, overhanging eaves, many windows, and rooms interconnected, without hallways, to create good airflow through the house. If the home has a second level, it’s much smaller in surface area than the first floor. Most bungalows also have large porches and stone chimneys leading to grand fireplaces inside.

Many Arts and Crafts bungalows can be found around Austin, with a vast number in the Hyde Park area. The Arts and Crafts movement was launched in the 1880s by a group of English designers, and it celebrated the use of handicrafts, simple forms, and natural materials. Arts and Crafts homes, or Craftsman homes, have low-pitched roofs, wide eaves with triangular brackets, large porches with thick round or square columns. Inside, most Craftsman bungalows have many windows, exposed beam ceilings, and built-in cabinetry and seating.

Other bungalows, such as the 1922 Norwood House on Lady Bird Lake (currently under disrepair) are built in the Prairie style. Prairie Style bungalows got their start in America in the early 1900s, and were developed by a group of architects in Chicago that became known as the Prairie School. Frank Lloyd Wright was the master of the Prairie Style home, characterized by broad, flat chimneys, the center of the home standing taller than the adjacent wings, and often with a Japanese flair.

The Queen Anne bungalow, also found within Hyde Park and elsewhere, is highly decorative and has an asymmetrical layout. These are often found with wraparound porches, and art glass windows, and sometimes one or two dormers popping out of a medium-pitched roof.

Though the architecture varies, the feeling of the bungalow remains the same- family friendly, and packed with hand-crafted style, and Austin is chocked full of them.

Many people think they know what they’re looking for when they want a “Victorian style” home. However, “Victorian” is a misnomer. It refers to a period of time, rather than a type of housing. The homes you think of as Victorian actually have their own names and origins. When you’re looking for a specific type of home, it may help to know the exact home style you are looking for.

Most Victorians share a number of features, including bay windows, ornate detailing of eaves, dormers and columns, and wraparound porches.

The style most popularly known as “Victorian” is actually the Queen Anne style. This home type was named, not so much for architecture during the reign of Queen Anne (from 1702 to 1714), but for the misattribution of the term from descriptions in William Makepeace Thackeray’s novel “The History of Henry Esmond, Esq., A Colonel in the Service of Her Majesty Queen Anne”.

You will know a Queen Anne by its asymmetrical design: windows, turrets, porches on multiple stories and the exquisite detailing on nearly every part of the home, including “gingerbread” trim, decorative moldings and sculptured columns. The bay windows that afford residents a “window-seat” are also a defining feature. The Queen Anne is unique for its enduring presence in popular culture as “Victorian”, but it is not the first, nor the last Victorian era home style, being in vogue from the 1880s to around 1910.

The first style known as “Victorian” is generally agreed to be Gothic Revival, which emerged in the early-mid 1800s, around 1840. These homes were patterned after medieval churches, with the steeply sloping roof and pointed-arch windows that were characteristic of those buildings.

Since middle-class Victorians could not afford the detailing that went into a classic Gothic Revival home, they went with a squarer, less ornamented style that came to be known as Folk Victorian.

The Italianate, reminiscent of the great manses of northern Italy, albeit in a smaller form, came into vogue in the 1860s. The segments of the house were often built asymmetrically, to evoke a feeling of the rambling Italian villas it was trying to emulate.

Second Empire homes were in vogue at the same time as the Italianate, but features a “mansard roof”- a roof that is as flat as possible to make the most of the attic area. Dormer windows are usually installed in the attic in this type of home.

The Stick style, emerging in the 1880s, is known for the contrasting planks on the exterior of the home and sometimes for the big overhanging porch on the second story.

The Romanesque Revival and Shingle styles are unique among Victorian era homes, as they have little or no ornamentation. However, their construction makes up for that. Due to their construction materials and design, homes of this design were the domain of the super-wealthy or for public buildings.

The Romanesque Revival is an all-stone building, with plain detailing for windows, doors and eaves. The Shingle style is just as it is named – shingles cover everything on the exterior. The Shingle eventually evolved into a more economical form that the middle class could afford and it is this kind of home that has survived into modern times.

It is a good idea to get a good idea of what kind of Victorian home you are looking for. It is quite possible that some of the lesser known Victorians are hiding in your local MLS without proper identification.

Choosing Home Plans

Looking For a New Home Plan?

Start Out by Identifying your Needs:

An architect identifies clients needs.

They help clients develop a program.

When you develop your own program, write down your needs.

Be open and truthful asking yourself what you expect from your new home. Considerations in this area include space requirements. Note: The amount of space and the type of space –taking into account anticipated changes in your family’s size. Will you need to accommodate aging parents or a growing family? Will you need a home office to fit your future job plans? Do you plan to live in your new home after retirement? Will a child return home after college? Do you have the space to accommodate an elderly, ill or disabled person? If you are less concerned with the perceptions of others your instincts may be the guide. You may need to search to strike a balance between personal needs and making a statement. Your program must also address your budget. Remember to leave dollars for landscaping and furnishings. An under-furnished new home with little landscaping can be a real disappointment. Adding 10 percent to the total cost is a good percentage to add to cover unforeseen changes, additions and upgrades that inevitably occur.

Home Sizing

The program that you develop may be somewhat of a wish list and reality may force modifications. This realization will probably occur when you determine an affordable square footage for your new home. The size of the home you build is the most important factor.

You can determine the average cost per square foot for new homes in your area by calling the local chapter of the National Association of Home Builders. Multiply the square footage of the home that you wish to build by the average cost per square foot to determine a general cost. If you find yourself staring at a grand total that is far beyond your budget, you’ll have to scale down the design or choose a new one. If it’s close to your budget, you can adjust the options, extras and finish materials to stay within budget. Developing a budget and calculating costs will take time and research, but it is an action that needs to happen.

Home Exterior Style

Decide the exterior style of your new home. Many people know what they want, but if you are unsure, this is simply what appeals to you. Home designs are very regional and this should be kept in mind. Choose appropriate house designs for your region. If you choose to be unique, this could affect your resale value.

Unsure of your home plan preferences?

Certain characteristics of each plan style may help.

Country Home Style This is the most popular style Nationwide. Country Style Characteristics include a large front porch or a wraparound porch, and a steeply pitched, gabled roof line that runs lengthwise. The farmhouse style is often lumped in with country-style designs. This house is typically a rectangular or L-shaped home, often two-story, and is derived from homes built in agricultural communities around the turn of the 20th century.

Traditional Home Style

This term describes classic designs with regional characteristics. Cape Cod Floor Plans for Free are at this cool web site – http://www.homeplansforfree.com/index_files/page0005.html

Ranch Home Plans

, and saltbox designs are all regional (and historical) styles. Simplicity is a common characteristic of traditional designs. They display little ornamentation, simple roof lines and small-paned windows that are often spaced equally (ranch styles may be an exception).

Victorian Home Style

This traditional-style home has strong historical origins; roof lines are intricate and include towers, bays and eyebrow windows; ornamentation and decoration are in the Victorian, and ornate porches are a prevalent feature. Materials usually include shingles or narrow-lap wood siding. This style is more appropriate for two-story homes, although one-story designs with Victorian features are also becoming very popular.

Contemporary

This broad category embodies many styles and shapes of homes. The common factors are an absence of ornamentation and decoration, and in general, little reference to older styles. Contemporary homes display bold geometric shapes, lots of glass, and windows with out shutters or decorative trim. Roof lines often range from flat to very steep.
